Luke 15:17-20 - by James McCleery
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.
17: What Christian has not said, “Well. duh, that wasn’t the smartest thing I have done, again! Look at all the wonders God provides and I am setting for the dregs.”
18: We realize that not only an apology and asking for forgiveness for our actions needed to those we rejected but also to the very God who provides all we need.
19: We feel so ashamed at the pain and separation we have caused that we no longer feel worthy of forgiveness or the honor we once enjoyed of being called sons and daughters.
20a: We realize that we must make not only the head connection of returning to God but also the physical turning away from our old ways of sin!
