Luke 15:13-16 - by Jack Downey
“Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
While we think of the prodigal son as being wasteful and extravagant. I don’t think we consider the rebellion or rebellious attitude of the son. The son though he knew better how to live his life than his father. Perhaps he thought his father was old fashioned, outdated, and out of touch with today. His father demonstrates the heavenly Father allowing us to have a free will. When we are determined to go against his will he often allows us to learn the hard way. Sometimes that is the only way we learn.
